Station Information
The circle size is proportional to the data value. To ensure an optimal display, a maximum size has been defined. However, it is always possible to obtain actual values by clicking on a station to access the detailed information.
Data Formats
- KML (Keyhole Markup Language): format allowing geospatial data viewing using applications such as Google Earth and Google Maps.
- CSV (Comma-Separated Values): tabular format allowing data analysis using spreadsheets such as MS Excel or OpenOffice.
Tow Type
Stratified random tows are fishing activities occurring during a survey based on a sampling design where stations are randomly selected within a series of strata (areas). This method divides the survey region (northern Gulf of St. Lawrence) according to depth strata. Depth has been selected as a variable because of its influence on the distribution of many fish and invertebrate species. The number of tows allocated within a specific stratum is proportional to its surface and the total number per sentinel survey is 300 tows. A standard tow requires a duration of 30 minutes on the bottom at a speed of 2.5 knots.
